Cowboys finally make free-agent signing with 36 million deal for safet
The have finally made a move in free agency. According to , the Cowboys are signing former safety Jalen Thompson to a three-year Juancho Hernangomez Jersey deal worth up to $36 million. "The Cowboys make another addition, this time agreeing to terms FA S Jalen Thompson, formerly of the Cardinals, per me and Jane Slater," Rapoport reported. "He gets a 3-year, $36M max deal." This marks the first signing for the Cowboys since the legal tampering period opened on Monday afternoon. It is the second move overall on Monday for Dallas after the team traded for edge rusher Rashan Gary. Safety was among the many needs the Cowboys had on defense this offseason. Thompson is as versatile as they come thanks to his experience playing in the slot, in the box and at free safety. In 2025, he posted a solid coverage grade of 69.2, per , and his 63.2 run defense grade was a strong mark, also. In terms of raw coverage numbers, Thompson gave up a completion rate of 62.3% and a pa ser rating of 102.3 when targeted. The completion rate was the lowest of his career.
